Description: Welcome to Part 14 of the WLAN Security Megaprimer! Please start this series by watching Part 1 http://www.securitytube.net/video/1756, if you have not done so already.
In this video, we will understand how WEP works. Almost all of us know that WEP is broken but still people use it off and on. The funny thing is that WEP cracking started as early as 2001! and still access point manufacturers seem to be shipping it. Once you have the right tools, WEP cracking is simple 5-10 minute exercise. However, it is important to understand how this protocol works. This will help us in understand why WEP is broken and also how attacks such as the Caffe Latte Attack, Hirte Attack, Chop-Chop etc. work!
We will also learn how to decrypt WEP packets using Wireshark and Airdecap-NG once we know the WEP key. In the next video, we will look at various tools and techniques used for WEP cracking.

Nice follow-up :)
Are there alternative(s) to the Alfa card?
P.S: I hope you enjoyed your weekend.
Thanks Mr. Vivek.
Yesssss!! this is so excellent Please Don't Stop vivek!!
Product placement at it's best.......this video is brought to you by Apple Computers Inc.......
Thanks for the video Vivek - brilliant as always! but I won't be buying Apple until hell freezes over :-)
Ahhh can't wait to watch, thanks Vivek.
this series are really useful.
please make parts about caffe latte / hirte attack in practical and parts about WPA .
Good Luck Vivek !
@Kamel There are some alternatives to the Alfa. I think the aircrack-ng guys and the BT guy maintain a list of supported cards. Have a look there.
@zidane, m0ei Thanks Guys!
@Blackmarketeer Haha! Apple is expensive and some products like the iPad are not too essential to have, but I can vouch for the greatness of the MacBook Pro :) Its a lovely machine.
@sohei.r Thansk! Yes, stay tuned buddy. All that will come shortly.
Just about to post the next video :) Hope you all are awake.
It's not often you find someone who is an expert on a topic being able to teach/explain it in such a simple easy to follow way... Vivek, you are truly gifted and blessed. Using this gift to help the rest of us with such passion is truly...."awesome" :)
another great one, thank you very much Vivek :)
Yay! Keep it up! Woot woot
perfect
@Fitzroy Thanks for your kind words! I just hope my accent is easy to follow :)
@Jaysin, Behrouz, Elostaz2omda Thanks a ton guys! :)
I just had to come back to this video and re-watch it, grabbing screenshots along the way. The diagrams are a great way to remember how all the pieces fit together. They're also good to have running on another monitor when you're dissecting stuff in wireshark.
I seem to be lost... Cause I cant find the "Like" button...
Just ordered the Alfa AWUS051NH networkcard. Thanks Vivek for all your wonderful videos. They have given me all the inspiration to try this my self.
This is exactly what I was looking to learn about WEP. Thanks so much!
Really nice! It's almost at the same level i get at university teaching when staying at an high level.
Thank you
so knowledgeable.. yet so humble.. you are great man..
Although I know how to crack wep, and I thought I knew how wep worked, you proved me wrong, and I'm grateful for that!
I'm really enjoying your series, and am truly inspired by you.
Hope that some day I'll have enough knowledge so I'll be able to pass "good karma" on!
Definitely my favorite video in this series so far! And I'm so glad you are covering the RC4 algorithm in depth too, I can't wait to check that out.
Really enjoyed the complexity of this video, I had to watch this one a few times for it to sink in.
This series as a whole has been very eye opening for me. I knew these tools existed (aircrack suite, etc), but I never had enough understanding of 802.11 and such to understand it like I do now.
Thanks Professor Ramachandran!
you were talking about some alternatives to Alfa? anything that you know to be selling online in India/Bangalore? any help is appreciated.
great videos, just purchased your book. keep up the good work.
@Vivek, as with the WLAN frame video this is another great one!
@Vivek-Ramachandran awesome as always :)
Very informative video :)
Awesome videos!! Thank you very much!! :)
All of your videos are awesome vivek. I will continue to watch (and rewatch) all of your videos.
Great explanation Vivek!
